Tools We USe
Hiking: We use three map services to guide us in finding hikes and navigating through them:
AllTrails - This is a great resource for finding trails near you. You can find trail maps with along with current location (will not work unless you have service or paid version). We mainly use this for finding local trails and reading reviews especially for current trail conditions.
Gaia GPS - Nice tool to keep track of where you currently are on a trail even when offline. Maps have a nicer look than AllTrails but the reviews are limited.
Avenza Maps - Like Gaia Maps, this allows you to follow your current location but on pre-downloaded maps. National Park maps are free and it’s nice to have as a supplemental to the other two above.
Campgrounds: We primarily use these apps to find nearby campgrounds and read reviews on them:
RV Parky - Also good for finding rest stops and gas stations with reviews.
Gas: Gas is very expensive when pulling your house around full-time. It’s also important to plan your fuel stops ahead of time especially with a big rig.
Loves - Also try staying overnight at one of their travel stops.
Pilot Flying J’s - Many have RV friendly pumps.
RV Parky - Offers reviews for gas stations to give you an idea of their accessibility.
Upside - Good app to use to get a kickback for using a preferred gas stations nearby. They can be a little inconvenient to get too but we use this when we aren’t attached to fill up and save a few bucks.
